The Netsuke Superstore
Inspired by the rich tradition of Japanese folklore, these new netusuke embody a spirit of fun and curiosity as they introduce the enjoyment of a diverse culture to your home or office.
Restrictive trade policies of the 17th century isolated Japan from foreign influence for 230 years. Thus began a great period of peace in which art, particularly miniature art, flourished and developed national characteristics. Subjects varied widely, including deities, legendary heroes, and animals. Artists aspired to the technical perfection of precise details. With the opening of Japan to foreign trade in the 19th century, Japanese miniature sculpture immediately captured the attention of Western collectors.
